…what’d YOU think this was gonna be about? PAUSE for the cause. Come on now- it’s still New Jack Week, and I can blog about a lotta stuff, but I doubt I’ll ever be doin’ an entry on… THAT.
Back when I was a youngsta listening to the radio, I filled up many a Memorex with New Jack Swing hits between 1988 and ’92. I can’t dance for jackshit now, but I was doin’ my best back then, although I could never get that Bobby Brown “My Prerogative” move quite right. I was also never gonna get a Gumby fade or blonde streaks or any of that craziness. Even without the crazy hair, and even when I was also crankin’ that Guns ‘N’ Roses somethin’ hard, I was all in with the NJS.
As y’all know by now, I’m not crazy about most of these rap-singin’ R&B niggas (have I stressed that point enough?). But I guess it’s a natural progression of what happened when R&B started incorporating hip-hop influence into the music. That said, I happen to love where the trend started.
The whole New Jack Swing era was a real movement. It was a new sound of music, style of dress, and way to dance. I remember watching Soul Train on the regular back then, and in hindsight, it’s wild to see how drastically the whole shit flipped in the course of one year. NJS kicked off in the summer of ’88 with Bobby, Guy, Al B. Sure!, Keith Sweat, Tony! Toni! Tone!, and New Edition ALL droppin’ hits. By the time it was winding down in ’92, even a star as major as Michael Jackson was a part of it.
And so as New Jack Week comes to a close, I present to you: the DanjLovesThe90s NewJackMix. It’s been years since the last time I did a mixtape, but if I can say so, I went innnn. I didn’t even get all the tracks I wanted on here- matter fact, I might have to do a sequel in the future. In the meantime, here it is… BAM:

Good Girls… them schoolgirl outfits… yeeeah, haaaa.
Kwame and them fukkin’ polka dots had a cool run, but he was killin’ me by the time he had that one shit w/ the super-bright fluorescent video. I don’t even remember the name of that shit, but ILLLLLLL, LOL

So basically, anybody who dropped in the early 90′s and had a mid/hi-top fade was apart of the new jack era! lmao Thank God moms never gave me one as a youngin!
I dont see any Pac on there! lmao That nigga had the mean fade in Juice and on like the first 2 album covers! lol
Oh wow- guess who’s bizack! What it is Nine?
HAAAA… yeah, my fade never got too far outta control, although one time, I had this brutal-ass part. That shit was crisp, LOL.
Pac had the fade, but the music was another deal totally… but speakin’ of him, I’m hopin’ to do a West Coast Week soon. Throw it up, throw it uuuuuuuup, I can’t see yaaaa!

Well of course YOU know what my dirty ass mind thought this blog was gonna be about.
I indeed had to chuckle at Bobby Brown lookin like he was….something on that cover. Doing too much comes to mind particularly LOL.
And check you out, with a mixtape and all. Definitely have to give a listen to the sexiest guy with an “!” in his name (muah*!)
LOL… I even knew you were gonna mention it in your comment too. I’m sure you’d go for somethin’ like that. Keep the faith, mama- haaa.
And yeah, you know we spoke on the exclamation point via Twitter… it’s that Al B. type stuntin’, that extra shit that makes the name look major… the “!” holds power.

This was hittin’ in HS. But by the 12th grade, it was a wrap with me diving DEEP into that “East Coast Sound” Hip Hop. But still, a lot of great memories with these cuts. So my commute to work tomorrow is going be on some real “old school” type of stuff. Seriously man, this was all at the house parties and school parties. Then you HAD to have at least half these on tape! No girl wanted to rock Ice Cube (mostly what I was listening to) or Cypress Hill when you are chilling out. lol
Good stuff again bro!
HAHA- you ain’t lied about that. I remember when girls used to scrunch their face up over some hip-hop shit… ‘can you put somethin’ else on?’, lol
But yep, this was def. the stuff to dance to. Straight fun music, for real. You’d go to the dance and hear one of these come on, get to thinkin’ you were in ‘House Party’ and shit…
-D!
Hey, I played this for my wife yesterday at home. She text me at work today telling me that she and her co worker were jammin to it. This is straight junior high music right here.
Ohhhhh! ‘Preciate it! Yeah man, shit takes me right back there, for real… for me it was 4th-8th grade, shit was KILLIN’.
Tell the wife I’m glad she (& coworker) dug it!

Ayyy, lust is good… glad I was able to oblige you, and hope to continue feedin’ your lust. Whoa!
