Welcome to September on DanjLovesThe90s, where I’ll be coverin’ the likes of Busta Rhymes, BlackStreet, and Fresh Prince of Bel Air, among other shit. As the fall commences, I also plan to introduce yet another new column named DanjLovesThe80sToo… which leads us to today’s entry.
“Don’t Talk… Just Listen”
07/01/2010Welcome to July on DLT90s, where I’ll be West Coastin’ with Death Row Week, talkin’ bout TLC, and maybe even doin’ a lil’ mixin’. Who knows… Today, I bring you another story from my own life that I recently had some laughs about- the time I heard DeVante Swing of Jodeci school a chick on how deep his cheese & wine game was.
DLT90s 1 Year Anniversary Special: THE FIDDY
06/01/2010Doooo youuuu knoooow what todaaay is? It’s my anniversary. Yeaaah. Anniversary.
Lemme tell y’all a lil’ about me. If there’s one thing I love talkin’ about, it’s old music, movies, and TV. Actually that’s three things, but no need to be technical. I’m an admitted nostalgia addict. It’s almost a prerequisite that any future wife and/or ex-wife of mine will have to have this same quality, or shit prob’ly ain’t gonna work. There’ll be no Waka Flocka played at my our reception. Due to this addiction of sorts, and rediscovering my interest in writing over the last two years, I started DanjLovesThe90s one year ago today.
It’s The Hard Knock Life.
05/03/2010Any of y’all ever seen Backstage? That documentary on the goings-on behind the scenes of the Hard Knock Life Tour? It wasn’t quite a must-have, but if you’ve ever wanted to see Dame Dash shit on DJ Clue‘s multi-directional haircut game, that’s the DVD for you. I was watchin’ it a couple nights ago, and it reminded me of how hyped I was to see that concert when it came here on Friday, March 26, 1999. My brother went and got both of our tickets a couple weeks prior, I had my new Phat Farm shirt on, and I was ready to go that afternoon.
But there was only one problem: I didn’t get to see the shit.
Representin’ Is Illmatic…
04/19/201016 years ago today… hip-hop gained another classic. I don’t mean “classic” like “millions of people bought it and played it to death, then forgot all about it”, I mean “classic” like… well, just keep readin’.
Jackin’ Off!
04/16/2010…what’d YOU think this was gonna be about? PAUSE for the cause. Come on now- it’s still New Jack Week, and I can blog about a lotta stuff, but I doubt I’ll ever be doin’ an entry on… THAT.
Back when I was a youngsta listening to the radio, I filled up many a Memorex with New Jack Swing hits between 1988 and ’92. I can’t dance for jackshit now, but I was doin’ my best back then, although I could never get that Bobby Brown “My Prerogative” move quite right. I was also never gonna get a Gumby fade or blonde streaks or any of that craziness. Even without the crazy hair, and even when I was also crankin’ that Guns ‘N’ Roses somethin’ hard, I was all in with the NJS.
DANJ! Loves The Wrasslin’
03/31/2010Aight, so… Ever since I started this site, I’ve known that the week after WrestleMania, I was gonna drop an entry about wrasslin’. So this shit here is like 10 months in the making. I haven’t mentioned it much on here thus far, but I’m a huge wrestling fan- been watchin’ since ’87, and still do. I’ve had a lot of interests in my years, but wrestling is only second to music as the one that’s kept my interest for the longest time. Wrote a blog about it, like to read it? Here it go:
DANJ! Presents Winter Six: 1999 (Makin’ Moves Y’all)
03/12/2010At the dead end of ’98, I moved back into Baltimore City, after spending about seven months out in the ‘burbs at my brother’s place. Within the first two weeks, I’d had a drunk pass out in front of my door and almost got caught in the crossfire of some nigga tryna shoot it out with the cops. Yeah, it was good to be back.
DANJ! Presents Winter Six: 1998 (Year Of The Dog)
03/05/2010Aight, so as we near the end of the Winter Six series, we keep it movin’ with the year of 1998. Follow my lead on a jour-r-ney…
DANJ! Presents Winter Six: 1997 (Rapper’s Delight)
02/26/2010Aight, so… I was in my senior year of high school, and the first few months of my year was some ol’ bullshit. I had a lil’ beef with this kid, and for whatever reason, my teachers acted like I was some kinda bully tormentin’ the nigga. On five different occasions between September and December, I was suspended, even havin’ to stay home for two weeks straight at one point. They’d gotten their hands on a tape I made and interpreted the lyrics to be some type of threat on the dude’s life, when it really wasn’t that serious. If I told y’all the extent to which this shit went, you’d be amazed that some people who work for a school could be so dumb.
